Facebook is Being Utilized for Criminal Behavior

Facebook is a social networking site used by many people to find old friends, to share information, to publish pictures and to meet new people.  According to Wauters, Robin.  “Facebook with almost 500 million Facebook users,” is the most popular site used in the world. However not everybody is using it in the same way. There many people utilizing this media with another propose; to murder, to kidnap and to robbery are some crimes that are using criminals by Facebook.  Facebook is a platform that is being used by criminals to lure potential victims. They are using this social networking as a tool to commit murder, kidnapping and some case to robbery.  Likewise, Facebook users are being victims of harassment by this criminal. Is Facebook a safety social networking to share information and to meet new friends? For these reason, Facebook users should think twice about what they are putting on this social networking site in order to stay safe and not become a victim of these criminals.

Facebook users are utilizing the site to commit murder. Murder as the case of Ana Maria Chavez, a 19-year-old student from Bogota-Colombia, murdered by two men she met through Facebook.  She had accepted one of the two men who committed the crime as her friend on the site.  Slowly, he gained the victim's trust, and they started a friendly relationship through this social networking site.
Likewise, is the case of Ashleigh Hall; a 17-year-old female student from Sedgefield-England, who was murder by man she met on Facebook. When she met him, he said that he was father of a boy that she was meeting.  He then kidnapped, raped and murdered her.
On the other hand are the cases for robbery, where criminals are using Facebook to get into homes of the Facebook users who put on line that they will be away from home for extended times. According to Mckinney, Melissa publication:
There is the case of Caroliny, who is Montgomery resident in UK,  Caroliny put on her Facebook what; (she is up to on the weekend-leaving home to go to the beach). And then when she returned home, thieves had entered her home and they  had stole everything.
Ironically the police also are using Facebook to resolve these cases of murder, robbery and kidnappings.  Like the victims, criminals are publishing information or comments that to help to police to resolve these crimes. According to the New Albany review;
There is the case in New Albani UK, where; Police may be using a popular social networking website to help piece together what may have led to a possible murder-suicide.
Just hours before being fatally shot last week, 27-year-old Clayton Wrege, of New Albany, posted a message on Facebook that he intended to seek a restraining order against Hugh Bellis-Jones, who investigators believe later killed him.
Equally to the victims, criminals posted messages that the police may to use for to catch these killers. In Wrege’s case, several messages he posted on Facebook offer clues as to a possible motive, these clues are using for the police to resolve this murder-suicide.
Millions of people are posting personal information about themselves, knowing that this may used against them. IH
Facebook is way fun. One out of every 14 people in the world now has a Facebook account, according to The New Yorker, which recently wrote a profile about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. He's also the subject of one of the fall's most anticipated movies, "The Social Network”.
In addition, some people are sharing too much over Facebook;  your up-to-the-minute location, your naked photos, your mama's maiden name can be harmful,  even dangerous,  and people must understand that,  there are people out there who want to use our information for nefarious reasons.
Accordingly, Facebook is not totally responsible for these crimes; people should know how to protect their information. In the same way, they must to know where the most appropriate place to share their information is, likewise what kind of information is appropriate to share.
 However, Facebook has changed privacy settings to protect their users   sections as: sharing information on Facebook, how we use you information, and how protect you information are some of new links that Facebook users can to control in their accounts.  According to Kaste, Martin:
People like sharing, and the main worriers about privacy are the professional privacy advocates”. There will now be "a single control for your content, more powerful controls for your basic information and an easy control to turn off all applications," Zuckerberg said in a post on The Facebook Blog. The default privacy settings allowed users' information to be shared widely, to be seen by other Facebook users not necessarily in their immediate or self-selected circles of friends. That raised concerns that the company wasn't trustworthy”.
In consequence, Facebook’s users can decide what they are sharing, and in this way Facebook could show that it is not completely responsible for what are people sharing in this social networking.
Although there were many cases of crimes committed against Facebook users, there are many people who are adding so-called friends, not realizing that this could be a potential criminal. In the same way, this user to continue publishing information that in many cases it is desirable to share with everybody. Everyone should think better what is sharing on Facebook, what kind of information is putting on-line and how could be used by another user, because there are many people are using Facebook with another propose.

Wrege wrote on May 17 that someone slit his tire and keyed his Jeep while it was in his driveway. He then wrote on May 25 that someone keyed and slit all the tires to the car belonging to his roommate, who was Bellis-Jones’ ex-girlfriend. He said his house was also covered in paint.

MLA Style Format

MLA Formatting and Style Guide

Summary: MLA (Modern Language Association) style is most commonly used to write papers and cite sources within the liberal arts and humanities. This resource, updated to reflect the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th ed.) and the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (3rd ed.), offers examples for the general format of MLA research papers, in-text citations, endnotes/footnotes, and the Works Cited page.

General Format

MLA style specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing. MLA style also provides writers with a system for referencing their sources through parenthetical citation in their essays and Works Cited pages.
Writers who properly use MLA also build their credibility by demonstrating accountability to their source material. Most importantly, the use of MLA style can protect writers from accusations of plagiarism, which is the purposeful or accidental uncredited use of source material by other writers.

Paper Format

The preparation of papers and manuscripts in MLA style is covered in chapter four of the MLA Handbook, and chapter four of the MLA Style Manual. Below are some basic guidelines for formatting a paper in MLA style.

General Guidelines

  • Type your paper on a computer and print it out on standard, white 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
  • Double-space the text of your paper, and use a legible font (e.g. Times New Roman). Whatever font you choose, MLA recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are recognizable one from another. The font size should be 12 pt.
  • Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise instructed by your instructor).
  • Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
  • Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin. MLA recommends that you use the Tab key as opposed to pushing the Space Bar five times.
  • Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor may ask that you omit the number on your first page. Always follow your instructor's guidelines.)
  • Use italics throughout your essay for the titles of longer works and, only when absolutely necessary, providing emphasis.
  • If you have any endnotes, include them on a separate page before your Works Cited page. Entitle the section Notes (centered, unformatted).

Formatting the First Page of Your Paper

  • Do not make a title page for your paper unless specifically requested.
  • In the upper left-hand corner of the first page, list your name, your instructor's name, the course, and the date. Again, be sure to use double-spaced text.
  • Double space again and center the title. Do not underline, italicize, or place your title in quotation marks; write the title in Title Case (standard capitalization), not in all capital letters.
  • Use quotation marks and/or italics when referring to other works in your title, just as you would in your text: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as Morality Play; Human Weariness in "After Apple Picking"
  • Double space between the title and the first line of the text.
  • Create a header in the upper right-hand corner that includes your last name, followed by a space with a page number; number all pages consecutively with Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.), one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor or other readers may ask that you omit last name/page number header on your first page.

Long Quotations

For quotations that extend to more than four lines of verse or prose: place quotations in a free-standing block of text and omit quotation marks. Start the quotation on a new line, with the entire quote indented one inch from the left margin; maintain double-spacing. Only indent the first line of the quotation by a half inch if you are citing multiple paragraphs. Your parenthetical citation should come after the closing punctuation mark. When quoting verse, maintain original line breaks. (You should maintain double-spacing throughout your essay.) For example:
Nelly Dean treats Heathcliff poorly and dehumanizes him throughout her narration:
They entirely refused to have it in bed with them, or even in their room, and I had no more sense, so, I put it on the landing of the stairs, hoping it would be gone on the morrow. By chance, or else attracted by hearing his voice, it crept to Mr. Earnshaw's door, and there he found it on quitting his chamber. Inquiries were made as to how it got there; I was obliged to confess, and in recompense for my cowardice and inhumanity was sent out of the house. (Bronte 78)
When citing long sections of poetry, keep formatting as close to the original as possible:
In his poem "My Papa's Waltz," Theodore Roethke explores his childhood with his father:
The whiskey on your breath
Could make a small boy dizzy;
But I hung on like death:
Such waltzing was not easy.
We Romped until the pans
Slid from the kitchen shelf;
My mother's countenance
Could not unfrown itself. (quoted in Shrodes, Finestone, Shugrue 202).

These villains utilize social networks to kidnap, rape and kill innocent victims. Everyday more and more youths are using Facebook in the world without the knowledge that it could a fatal entertainment.
However, many people think that this could not happen in Europe or in The United States, which only is happening in South America. This is not true. These issues (identity verification, privacity and safety) are happen in many countries in the world, as there is one case in Bogota-Colombia, and another in Sedgefield-England both about young ladies killed by "friends" that they met on Facebook. Therefore, first Facebook is being used by criminals to lure potential victims, and second; villains in some cases are using fake profile.

Similar to this, happened with Ashleigh Hall where her supposed friend had used the fake identity of a teenager boy to entice Ashleigh into meeting him. He created the fake profile on Facebook and used pictures of a boy in his late teens.
